My Top 5 - Grounds
with Max from Emma's Ground Guide
In this series we will look at My Top 5's in the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire football area. In the 1st publication we look at My Top 5 grounds with Max from Emma's Ground Guide. Max along with his Fiancé Emma are well known groundhoppers locally. As a couple they review every club that they visit in some key categories location, kit, facilities, look & food & drink (including the vital dark fruits). With the introductions over, lets hear Max's top 5.
5. BORROWASH VICS
The asterdale bowl is a brilliant
little hidden gem of a ground.
On our visit we commented on it
being one of the best we had seen at step 6 with a large seated stand and
terrace behind the goal. They have since dropped to step 7 making it surely one
of the best grounds at that level in the country!
4. ALFRETON TOWN
The highest in our list, this step 2
ground has a bit of everything!
From the sea of red seats behind the
goal, to the random blue seats donated by Sheffield Wednesday, to the brilliant
terrace behind the goal.
This ground may not be the prettiest
but the randomness gives it a charm that’s one of the reasons we love non
league grounds so much!
3. SHERWOOD COLLIERY
Debdale park is a lovely little
ground right on the edge of an old pit in Mansfield Woodhouse. This land has
been taken over by nature providing a wonderful forest like backdrop all along
one side of the ground.
Sherwood themselves are a club on
the up and since our visit have climbed from step 6 to 5 and are early
favourites to go up again this season. It will be interesting to see how the ground
progresses as the club climb up through the leagues
2. LONG EATON UNITED
Onto another club who have risen
through the leagues of late, The Blues have shot through the leagues with back
to back promotions since our visit to see them as a step 5 club in 2021, as
they now ply their trade up at step 3
The ground is a wonderful set up
with a large seated stand backing onto the clubhouse. On the opposite side is a
smaller covered terrace. Since our most recent visit there have also been
upgrades to the hospitality facilities with a new building being constructed
1. MATLOCK TOWN
Amazingly this is a ground we are
still yet to visit for our blog, but one I have visited myself 3 times when on
walking weekends in the area.
Most people reading this blog will
know all about this ground, and if you haven’t been before I would recommend it
to everyone!
A great seated stand which is quite
similar to long Eaton’s, opposite this is a proper old school non league
terrace but the main attraction of this ground is the view up towards Riber
Castle. A groundhopping blogger/photographers dream!
We must visit again soon!
